Academy of Engineering
Red Bank Regional’s Academy of Engineering provides an excellent and accessible education where every student explores real world challenges that are interesting, fun, and grounded in engineering principles. The academy promotes effective learning through the use of technology, effective teaching, creativity, competitions, and scholarship opportunities that prepare our students for the next stages of their life while developing a passion for learning
The Academy of Engineering was created in 2008 as an independent academy of learning. It was developed with leaders
from industry and education. The Academy of Engineering is aligned with Project Lead the Way; a national high school
pre-engineering curriculum. This curriculum integrates viable science and mathematics skills with a variety of
fundamental engineering problem solving activities. Students may take classes as general electives or can pursue
an approved Career & Technical Education program in Engineering Technologies. The academy course pathway includes
courses such as: Introduction to Engineering Design, Principals of Engineering, and Civil Engineering and Architecture.
Admission to the Academy of Engineering is based on test scores (NJASK7; comparable TerraNova Grade 8 survey),
academic performance, attendance, and other criteria related to specific areas of study. In addition, students
will be administered an in-house admission test.
Students enrolled in the Academy of Engineering can participate in Technology Student Association (TSA);
a state approved Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO). TSA offers students the opportunity to attend
state and national leadership conferences and compete in engineering and technology related activities. Our
students have qualified and competed nationally the last two years in Denver and Baltimore.
Courses are taught by certified teachers in each area. Teachers are continually attending workshops and on-going
certification programs to upgrade skills. The Engineering curriculum is aligned with New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards
in Math, Science, and Technology. Engineering classes are offered a minimum of 82 minutes per day.
Students must pass National Standardized Testing at the end of each course.
In 2008, Red Bank Regional’s Academy of Engineering received the “School of Excellence” designation from Project
Lead the Way’s National Office. Students may now receive college credit through satisfactory completion at college
level final exams. The college credit can be articulated through a variety of four year colleges.
