Objectives of the AVID elective

Students will:

• Participate in tutorials for academic success
• Improve their oral communication skills through a variety of activities including presentations and Socratic seminars
• Participate in writing to learn activities including note-taking, summarizing, learning logs, interviews, and essay writing.
• Develop and add to a writing portfolio of work
• Engage in mandatory volunteer and community service activities
• Develop organizational and study skills by using a binder, taking Cornell notes, using a daily planner, and learning how to prioritize
• Develop life-long values and principles of self-discipline, goal setting, determination, and responsibility

Application Process
