Objectives of the AVID elective
Students will:
- Participate in tutorials for academic success
- Improve their oral communication skills through a variety of activities including presentations and Socratic seminars
- Participate in writing to learn activities including note-taking, summarizing, learning logs, interviews, and essay writing.
- Develop and add to a writing portfolio of work
- Engage in mandatory volunteer and community service activities
- Develop organizational and study skills by using a binder, taking Cornell notes, using a daily planner, and learning how to prioritize
- Develop life-long values and principles of self-discipline, goal setting, determination, and responsibility

Application Process
Students need to apply for the AVID program prior to entering their 9th and 10th grade.
