FOOTBALL FANS: HELP RBR TACKLE HUNGER THIS THANKSGIVING!
A new tradition will meet the old as football fans who donate a non-perishable food item will receive free admission to the Red Bank Regional-Long Branch football game this Thanksgiving. The traditional matchup—one of the longest-running in the Shore—will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26. Kickoff is at 10 a.m. at Red Bank Regional, and all who donate—parents, children, students, RBR fans, Long Branch fans—will get in for free.
All the food collected will be donated to the Salvation Army of Red Bank, an organization that assists people in over 30 area towns, explained English teacher Cassandra Dorn, who helped initiate RBR’s fifth Football Food Drive. “The game-related drive is a great way to come together as a community, not only to root on our favorite teams but to reach out to those in need. The Thanksgiving game is a fantastic tradition in this area, and we’re trying to establish a new tradition that combines fun, great football, and caring for our neighbors.”
Red Bank Regional Principal Risa Clay added, “It's exciting to see the level of involvement in this initiative! Once again, our students, faculty, and families are working together toward a common goal--helping to feed our community.”
A similar food drive at a previous game this season gathered over 350 pounds of food, which was donated to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Dorn hopes to surpass that total at the RBR-Long Branch game. “Every item donated makes a difference,” Dorn said. “I’m optimistic that at a big event like the Thanksgiving rivalry game, fans will show their support for their teams and the needy in our area. The event is a win-win for our community, no matter what the score of the game.”
The Buccaneers and Green Wave will kick off at Red Bank Regional on November 26 at 10 a.m. All fans donating a non-perishable food item receive free admission to the game.
