2010-11 TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Ms. Judice is pictured here with a few of her biggest fans, Global Studies students. Roxanne has taught at RBR her whole professional life. She graduated from Rutgers University five years ago with a Masters in Social Studies Education. Her undergraduate degree in History was also from Rutgers, where she earned the highest honors of Summa Cum Laude. Teaching was a natural professional choice for Ms. Judice who has always enjoyed working with young people.
She states, “I like making connections with my students on topics in history as it relates to their daily life.”
She also teaches an elective course in Human Geography (which is the keystone course in the Academy of International and Cultural Studies) and four sections of Global Studies in the Freshman Academy. She enjoys the camaraderie of working in the Freshman Academy, where she has an opportunity to frequently plan with her fellow freshman core teachers. She believes that the Freshman Academy approach helps freshman better transition to high school. She finds her RBR students to be most pleasant and healthily curious.
She states her goal as a teacher is “to create engaged, informed citizens. I value curiosity in my classroom and try to create lessons that use history as a vehicle to understanding human achievements (and failures), compassion and perspective.”
RBR Principal Risa Clay states of this year’s Teacher of the Year, “Roxanne has done a fantastic job in our Freshman Academy, with her AP Human Geography class and in training with the International Baccalaureate program. I congratulate her for her hard work and this deserving recognition.”
