WELCOME TO THE

WONDERFUL

WORLD OF HISTORY

Welcome to my Website. Here students and parents will find useful information regarding the classes I teach. The purpose of social studies education is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to be active, informed, responsible citizens and contributing members of their communities. Throughout the following school year, students will journey through the founding of our American nation and its relationship with other nations throughout history.

US History I CP and US History I Honors will focus on the growth and development of the United States from the colonial period through the end of the nineteenth century. Topics include constitutional rights, obligations, and priveleges of citizens in the continually evolving relationship with their government. This class will make learning about American history fun and exciting for students through the incorporation of interactive lessons, cooperative learning techniques, and technology-infused activities.

Forensic Social Science is the half year keystone course for the Academy of the Humanities. This is a research and project based course that promotes critical thinking skills as students research a variety of current world issues through hands-on activities. Students will work both cooperatively and independently to develop their writing, inquiry, collaborative, and reading skills through forums, cooperative learning groups, library and internet research. Activities include Collins Writing assignments, group presentations, Socratic seminars, debates, surveys, movies, film project, and a final paper. Lessons will be infused with our school's available technology - including Microsoft Word, Power point, MAC IMovies, flip cameras, videos, and countless Media Center resources. Each topic covered will acclimate students to the variety of liberal arts studies available in college.
