Selection Procedure Description
The National Honor Society chapter of Red Bank Regional High School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
Students in grade 11 are eligible for membership after the second quarter of the year is complete.
To be considered for membership in the RBRHS National Honor Society, a student must meet the following criteria:
- A cumulative average of at least 93.01 at the midpoint of junior year
- Two signatures of recommendation from faculty members
- A list of community service activities -50 hours- (only out-of-school activities (including club-related activities) qualify for service hours)
- A list of leadership activities
- A list of extra-curricular and/or co-curricular involvement
- A personal statement of no more than 200 words
In the Spring those students who meet this criterion will be invited to complete a Candidate Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service.
To evaluate a candidate’s character, the faculty council uses two forms of input. First, school disciplinary records are reviewed. Second, members of the faculty are solicited for input regarding their professional reflections on a candidate’s service activities, character, and leadership. Any solicited faculty input and all Candidate Forms are carefully reviewed by the faculty council to determine membership.
Following notification, a formal induction ceremony will be held at the school to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance (or better) in all four criteria that led to their selection.
