RBR Welcomes Chinese School Students to Celebrate Chinese New Year
The Red Bank Regional (RBR) High School community welcomed The Jersey Shore Chinese School students to their school to usher in the Year of The Monkey. RBR Chinese students mceed the festive celebration in sharing the Chinese cultural education experience with their peers. RBR has offered Chinese language classes for eight years.
The program was a feast of color, pagentry and skill. Chinese students displayed their adroit talents with the Chinese yo-yo. Beautifully festooned dancers performed an elegant folk dance, while others manipulated the serpentine dragon in his traditional dance. RBR Principal Risa Clay courageously fed the red envelope to the Lion which signifies warding away evil spirits and bringing good luck.
The RBR Chinese World Language Teacher, Chinyun Wu, who also teaches at the Jersey Shore Chinese School in Holmdel, arranged for her students’ performance at RBR.
She states, “The year 2016 is the Year of the Monkey which extends from Feb. 8, 2016 through Jan. 27, 2017. The monkey represents the ninth in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The monkey zodiac sign is smart, clever and intelligent, especially for career and wealth.”
She adds, “We wish everyone a wealthy and healthy Year of Monkey.”
