RBR VPA Art Students Decorate Little Silver Shops in Festive Fall Painted Themes

RBR student artists are pictured with their teacher Claudia O’Connor and Ye Old Pie Shoppe owners, Eileen and Tom Caruso, in Every fall, Red Bank Regional (RBR) Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) teacher Claudia O’Connor and Ye Old Pie Shoppe Owner Eileen Caruso coordinate their annual window painting project in downtown Little Silver.  Over ten businesses participate in the project that results in clever windowscapes of pumpkin patches, and graveyard themes.  The students plan and execute their designs, which Mrs. O’Connor oversees and approves. The event takes an entire school day, with the students taking breaks for snacks and lunch appreciatively provided by the business owners whose windows they are adorning. The custom was originated by former Markham Place School art teacher, Barbara Murray, over a decade ago, and was augmented by the high school since.

Eileen Caruso comments, “Little Silver Business and Professional Association –had asked to add the high school and we have been coordinating every since. We love it. It makes the town livelier. Our customers and business owners comment on how really nice this tradition has become.”

Mrs. O’Connor adds, “This is always a fun and productive exercise for our students. They get to see how their art embellishes their community.”
