Krishna Kanuga of Red Bank Regional is the NJ.com girls tennis Coach of the Year, 2019
Krishna Kanuga felt like his Red Bank Regional girls tennis had a chance to be special this fall. He was right. The Buccaneers won a school-record 20 matches and their first-ever sectional title (Central Jersey, Group 3). They also knocked off the reigning six-time Tournament of Champions winner, Millburn, in the Group 3 semifinals the morning of their first trip to Mercer County Park for group team tennis day.

RBR College Bound Students Benefit from IB Diploma
In a very competitive environment to gain entrance to the country’s top colleges as well as preparation for an ever challenging global environment, students often look for ways to distinguish themselves among their peers. Seven of Red Bank Regional’s (RB) recent graduates have accomplished that distinction by earning the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). They include: Summer Smith, Sophia Pouso, Ashley Lloyd, Claire Lynch, Grace Noglows, Quinn Moore, and Brady Lynch.

Five RBR Graduates Reach Eagle Scout – Boy Scouts Highest Honor
At its June 19 board meeting, Red Bank Regional High School (RBR) commended its students that reached the venerated level of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts highest honor. They were (from Little Silver Troop 126) Gianni Perfetto, Marc Brewer, Brendan Loftus, (Red Bank Troop 67) Craig Scharmann and Erik Olsen. All five boys are from Little Silver.

RBR Selects Former Colleague, Julius Clark, as its New Principal
At its June 19 meeting, the Red Bank Regional (RBR) Board of Education announced that its old friend and colleague Julius Clark of Toms River will be its new principal. He will be replacing long-time employee and administrator, Risa Clay, who officially leaves the district in October and is currently on medical leave. Julius Clark began his educational career in Red Bank school district just after graduating from the College of New Jersey in 2005. He taught math in the sixth and eighth grades. Over $75,000 in Scholarship Money Awarded to RBR Graduating Seniors at SOURCE Awards Dinner
On June 5, the Red Bank Regional SOURCE held its 19th annual awards reception and distributed over $75,000 in scholarship money to help students realize their dream of college. The SOURCE is RBR’s School Based Youth Services Program that provides RBR’s students with mental health counseling as well as other services for the purpose of removing all obstacles that impede academic success. Senior Art Majors Gift Art Work to RBR that Expresses School’s Essence
Every year, the graduating studio art majors of Red Bank Regional’s (RBR) Visual & Performing Arts Academy create a final work together and bequeath it to RBR, their legacy to adorn their school walls. Their teacher Claudia O’Connor, who uses the exercise to simulate a professional job for a business client, assigns the project. Over the years the clients have been various departments of the school and their academies, including the media center. The objective is for the students to visually represent the idea their client envisions regarding the essence of that department or academy.

Thirteen students from Red Bank Regional’s (RBR) Barbara Beckett’s art class had their art selected as ads for the Monmouth Day Care Center (MDCC) Art Journal in this their 50th birthday celebration year. Fourteen RBR VPA Majors Collected Dozens of Accolades for Creative Writing
Red Bank Regional (RBR) Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Creative Writing majors recently learned that they earned nearly two dozen regional and two national awards in the prestigious 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards sponsored by the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. RBR SOURCE Hosts a Frank Discussion on How “Talk Saves Lives”—for Suicide Prevention
The statistics are sobering. The growing crisis of suicide affects all age groups and communities. Over 800,000 people die of suicide every year in the world. The age group with the highest suicide rate is 45 to 65 year olds. In the vulnerable teen community, suicide is the second cause of death for American children ages 10 – 14 and 18 to 24. Acknowledging the magnitude of the problem and its sensitivity, in early May, the SOURCE, Red Bank Regional’s (RBR) school-based counseling program, hosted an intimate, frank conversation for its parental community on the subject. In the casual and welcoming environment of a parent’s home, SOURCE Director Suzanne Keller, along with guest speakers Mary Fowler and Phyllis Alongi from the Upstream Suicide Prevention (through the RWJBH Institute for Prevention and Recovery) spoke to RBR parents about suicide, its signs, how to listen, respond and how to help. Upstream Suicide Prevention is a county-funded grant program.

RBR VPA Student Takes Second Place in National Art Competition
Last month, Red Bank Regional (RBR) sophomore Dori Valentine of Shrewsbury was notified that she took second place in the BLICK Art Materials National Multi-Media Competition; her piece was selected from over 500 entries. Dori is a studio art major in the RBR Visual & Performing Arts Academy. Last year, her teacher, Claudia O’Connor, had assigned her a multi-media self-portrait as part of her classwork. Ms. O’Connor had also brought the BLICK competition to her class’s attention, as it is mandatory for all RBR VPA studio art majors to enter at least two competitions each school year. The BLICK contest requested students to submit entries that most connected them to art.

RBR Prepares Students for Safe Choices with Project Prom during Prom Week
An exciting time in a high schooler’s life, the prom season, is characterized by much preparation. The students save to buy their prom tickets and their dresses and suits. There is the shopping and the logistics. Who is going with whom? On the big day, corsages and boutonnieres are affixed, pictures taken as happy family celebrations precede the sendoff to the big event. During that week, Red Bank Regional (RBR) administration, supported by the emergency services of Little Silver engages in their own preparations for prom. Project Prom is a week long program of activities designed to keep students safe by encouraging them to make the right decisions regarding driving impaired.

RBR VPA Groups Take Home Top Honors from Virginia International Music Festival
At the 2019 Virginia International Music Festival held from April 25 through April 28, RBR VPA students took away outstanding honors. Participants came from high schools throughout the United States. RBR Students Strong Academic Performances Rewarded through SOURCE Program
: On May 1, over 40 Red Bank Regional High School (RBR) students were celebrated for their stellar academic accomplishments at the school during its annual Encourage and “A” Program and celebratory dinner, sponsored by the RBR SOURCE. One by one, students were called up to receive a variety of gifts including gift certificates to a favored teenage retail store, Amazon Echos, Beats headphones, laptops and even flatscreen TV’s. The value of the gift ascended with the number of A’s the students earned in their third marking period this school year.

Thirteen RBR Photo Majors Commended in Ocean County Camera Contest
Red Bank Regional(RBR) photo majors recently won accolades for their photo art in the Ocean County Camera Competition. Georgia Landree, Little Silver, Isabella Albarella, Millstone, Julie Glidden, Little Silver, Emily Gannon, Shrewsbury, Stephanie Flores Avina, Bradley Beach, Maya Restifo, Neptune City, and Sophia Morales. Shrewsbury, and Jamie Hicks, Shrewsbury will all be going on for a national competition. Honorable mention awards were also given to: Heidi Jacinto, Red Bank, Claire Petrone, Shrewsbury, Sarah Caldwell, Bradley Beach, Sheridan Torres, Little Silver, Chloe Rosen, Little Silver, and Fiona Slattery, Red Bank.

Little Silver Police Detail How they Keep RBR Students Safe in Challenging Times
Just as Dr. Louis Moore, RBR Superintendent began addressing a room of parents at a pre-arranged meeting on school security, breaking news flashed of yet another school shooting. This one was at a STEM High School near Denver. A brave young man died trying to protect his classmates from the shooter. “We live in challenging times, Dr. Moore began, “This is not only clear and present, it is heartbreaking. We do these things (as detailed in the security meeting) as a sacred obligation. It is our best effort to prevent a tragedy from happening.”

RBR Students soon to pack their bags for Worldwide Destinations through CIEE’s Global Navigator Programs
At its May 1 meeting, the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Global Navigator Program International Studies Advisor, Caryn Berman addressed the Red Bank Regional (RBR) Board of Education. She informed them that 14 RBR students had been granted over $42,000 in scholarship money to attend CIEE’s programs for summer 2019. Four of those students were present at the meeting to express their gratitude and state what they would be doing over their summer vacation.

RBR to Present a Spring Dance Extravaganza Friday, May 31
ed Bank Regional (RBR) High School will present its Spring Dance Extravaganza on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 7 pm. The RBR Visual & Performing Arts Academy (VPA) dance majors will present a variety of contemporary, ballet, hip hop, jazz and modern dance numbers in the Joseph A. Russo III Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and children over 12; $5 for senior citizens/non-RBR students and children. RBR students and faculty attend free. RBR is located at 101 Ridge Road in Little Silver, NJ. RBR Athlete Commit to Play Sports in College Next Year
This fall, RBR graduates will be swimming, running, playing football, baseball, cheerleading and throwing the shotput and discus from the Northeastern most state of New Hampshire at Dartmouth all the way across the country to the Pacific Northwest at the University of Oregon. RBR Senior Student Art Show, “Retrospective” Runs at Guild of Creative Art from May 1 thru May 8
The amazing talents of Red Bank Regional’s senior art majors will be on display in a free community show, “Retrospective” from May 1 through May 8 at the Guild of Creative Art on 620 Broad Street in Shrewsbury. The students: Amy Gardner, 17, Union Beach; Hannah Gazdus, 18, Shrewsbury; Sophie Navarro, 17, Little Silver; Renee Mercereau, 18, Little Silver; Tyler Munoz, 18, Little Silver; Morgan Sluka, 18, Avon by the Sea; Katherine Smith, 18, Spring Lake Borough; and Isabella Ybarra, 18, Red Bank will be on hand to greet visitors to their opening reception on Friday, May 3, from 6 to 8 pm. Refreshments will be served.
