RBR World Language Seniors Pursue the Seal of Biliteracy

Many of our seniors are testing this month to obtain the Seal of Biliteracy Certificate awarded by the New Jersey State Department of Education to seniors who have demonstrated biliteracy in a world language. These senior world language students are working hard to secure the certificate issued in June before their graduation ceremony.
Why Seek the Seal?
The Seal of Biliteracy opens up opportunities for those pursuing higher education or joining the workforce.
As the world increasingly becomes more global, the need for employees with bilingual and multilingual skills has increased.

Employers seek bilingual or multilingual individuals for reasons such as:
  • Accessing expanding markets;
  • Better serving customer needs;
  • Reaching particular and wider ranges of audiences; or
  • Opening a channel of communication with customers.
Eligibility for the Seal of Biliteracy
Students must demonstrate a proficiency level of Intermediated- Mid in a World Language in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  They must attain a score of a minimum of 5 in the STAMP World Language Assessment, a minimum of 4 in IB World Language HL or SL exam, and a minimum of 4 in the AP exam by May of their senior year..
While we would like to encourage our current seniors in attaining the Seal, we would also like to recognize the seniors from the Class of 2019-2020 who were awarded the Seal of Biliteracy Certificate in Spanish, Italian and French.
