• Governor’s Award for Outstanding
    Educator of the Year

The New Jersey Department of Education is pleased to announce the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Educator of the Year.  This new celebratory program integrates the Teacher of the Year with the Governor’s Teacher/Educational Services Professional Recognition Program to continue to recognize our state’s best teachers AND educational services professionals.

Please find attached an Educator of the Year nomination form AND an Educational Services Professional nomination form for the 2020-2021 Governor’s Award Recognition Program.

The Educator Recognition Program (formally the Teacher of the Year) was developed in 1985 for the purpose of acknowledging teachers who exhibit outstanding performance. The premise of recognizing teachers is based on the following:

    1. the success of our public schools are due to the quality and dedication of their teaching staff

    2. recognizing excellence will encourage teachers to strive for excellence

    3. by giving the teaching profession the stature and recognition it deserves, more capable people will be attracted to the profession

    4. like other professions, outstanding performance should be acknowledged

Since the spring of 1996, most of the county superintendents’ offices have collaboratively planned county teacher recognition programs with district administrators. In order to use common criteria and forms for the selection of teachers, the guidelines noted on the nomination form are recommended. For the purposes of this program, teachers are those whose primary responsibility is classroom instruction. Nominee does not have to be your current teacher.  Please see criteria as guidelines have changed.

Listed below are the names of our colleagues who previously received recognition for their outstanding teaching efforts and educational service professionals.
