• RBR Principal Opening Day Letter and Bulletin

Posted by Mr. Julius Clark on 8/27/2020

    Dear Families & Students:

The opening of school is an exciting and important time for everyone. As we enter the new school year, the faculty, staff, and administration extend a warm welcome and best wishes to everyone.  During these unprecedented times, we are committed to providing our students with a safe learning environment.

We have been working diligently throughout the summer to prepare for the safe return of our staff and students.  Hand sanitizer will be located in all classrooms and common areas for easy access to students.  All students and staff are required to wear face coverings at all times while in the building and on school premises.  Due to safety reasons, students can not arrive at the school before 7:30 am.

Red Bank Regional is an exceptional school with award-winning programs and a rich curriculum. We will continue to provide our students with a rigorous, academic program as well as a strong support system for all students.  Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of all that is offered at Red Bank Regional.

Although your academic work is a very important aspect at RBR, we also encourage you to become involved in the other offerings that RBR provides such as athletics, clubs, and service organizations. Our school has a wide range of extra-curricular offerings and truly has something for everyone to stay engaged, explore their interests, and build new friendships.

The school website and Genesis Parent Portal is one of our major modes of communication. Families are required to sign up for our Parent Portal. The Portal allows access to important information such as grades, attendance, and student schedules. The “Student Photography & Video Consent Form” can be completed through Genesis. Other relevant forms may be found on our website under Parents/Students -> Forms. All forms are required to be completed and returned to the first block teacher by September 21, 2020.

We are proud to continue our 1:1 Student Chromebook initiative.  All incoming 9th-grade students should have received their Chromebooks this past week.  Any incoming 9th grader or a new student who did not receive their Chromebook will be assigned one during the first week to support their educational program and expand access to technology. Enclosed in this mailing is the RBR Student Chromebook Agreement that explains these expectations. Students and families should review the document carefully, sign it, and return it during the first week of school.  Your Chromebook will not be distributed unless the agreement has been received.

Please note that September 10th  is the first day of school for all students, whether you are attending in-person instruction or working remotely.  The cohort structure and the schedule for the week of September 8th is outlined below.   In addition, please review the schedule at the end of this document that outlines the schedule for each cohort for the month of September and October.  We ask that any students who have school-issued textbooks from the previous school year drop off these books at the main entrance of the school on Tuesday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 9 between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration, I wish you happiness and success this school year.  We are in this together and will provide the best education for our students.  Please save the date of Tuesday, September 22, for our virtual “Back To School” night from 7 pm - 9 pm.  More details will be forthcoming.

    Sincerely,

    Julius W. Clark

    Principal

    Summer Bulletin/School Opening Information

    Cohorts*

The cohort structure for all schools is as follows:

    • Cohort 1 will be students with last names from A-Lopez-Paniagua and they will attend in-person on-campus instruction on Mondays and Thursdays
    • Cohort 2 will be students with last names from Loudin-Z and they will attend in-person on-campus instruction on Tuesdays and Fridays.

We are unable to take requests to change assigned cohorts. Please remember that students will follow their regular daily class schedules whether they are attending school remotely or in-person.

*Students who attend the Career Center and Vocational Program will not be placed in a cohort.

Student Conduct Expectations During the Pandemic

While attending school virtually or in-person, students are expected to adhere to all school and conduct policies as outlined in the student handbook.  In addition, students are to adhere to the following guidelines when attending in-school instruction:

    1. All students must enter through the front entrance.
    2. While present in the building and on school premises, masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn at all times.
    3. Immediately upon entering the building, students must enter through the temperature checkpoints
    4. Students will maintain social distancing parameters.

*Students who do not follow these expectations while present at RBR will face discipline consequences and may forfeit the option to attend school in-person.

When students are working virtually from home they are to adhere to the following guidelines:

    1. Students must attend all remote classes on time and stay for the entirety of the class.
    2. Students must also follow the student dress code while attending virtual classes (Student Handbook pgs 80-81 ).
    3. Students must turn on their cameras unless directed otherwise by their teacher.
    4. Students must be sitting upright while attending virtual classes. (i.e. no lying in bed or on the couch)

*Students who do not follow the virtual learning expectations above or disrupt the virtual learning process will be removed from the virtual classroom during the block.

    School Entrance Procedures

When students are attending school in person, all students are required to complete a health screening form before they come to school.  The forms can be accessed in the parent portal in Genesis.  (If you are not signed up for the portal, please do so immediately!!)  At the main entrance, all students will also be temperature screened.  Remember that you must also be wearing a mask to enter the building.

    Student Schedules

Schedules will be available on our Parent Portal on AUGUST 31, 2020.  Your new class schedule will contain the class blocks, teacher names, subjects, and room assignments.  In some instances, changes have been made to a student’s course selections. Instructional Principles

Here at RBR, we are committed to providing our students with a rich, robust learning experience within our hybrid educational plan.  We will highlight four key areas of our educational program to ensure that our students receive the most thorough education possible.  These areas will focus on instructional practices, technological resources, assessment strategies, and articulation. Our goal is to make the instructional process as synchronous as possible, with the understanding that there may be times or specific classes where students will be asked to work asynchronous based on varying factors.

Regardless if a student is attending class in-person or remotely, they are all one class.  Teachers will deliver lessons that will be synchronous and student-centered. We will strive to make each lesson engaging and interactive for all students.  Please visit our website for the presentation about our Instructional Operational Principles.

    Back to School Night

Back to School Night is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22nd from 7pm-9pm.  All sessions will be conducted remotely.

    School Calendar

Located on our website you will find our revised school calendar. The faculty and administration of Red Bank Regional High School place a high priority on student attendance. The classroom experience can never be replicated when students are absent.

We appreciate your cooperation in scheduling family vacations and personal commitments during school holidays and after school hours. Family vacations during days school is in session will be recorded as “unexcused” absences. Final exams will begin June 15, 2021. These dates may change depending on status with the pandemic. Please be aware that the school has the flexibility to add days to the school calendar.

    RBR Parent Portal

Families can access student report cards and attendance through the Genesis Parent Portal on our school website. Sign up for the Portal can easily be accessed 24/7 through your computer and is safe and secure. We use the Portal for important notifications and information throughout the school year.

    SOURCE Update

We at the SOURCE are excited to begin this school year with you and want you to know we are here for you whether we are in school or learning remotely.

To access our services please go to our Student Resources page on Google Classroom.  Located under the classwork tab in the Welcome and Forms section, you will find our SOURCE registration and consent form available in both English and Spanish. Please take a moment to complete the registration and consent form so that should you want to speak with a counselor we have the consent on file.

The easiest way to navigate this classroom is to click the Classwork tab at the top of the page.  On the left-hand side you will see a variety of topics that will help you navigate your school year.  It is normal to feel overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious during your day.  It's also common to feel grief, anger, and disappointment as we continue to live in these changing times.  We encourage you to look through all of the topics and explore the strategies and tools we have provided for you.

If you are concerned about yourself, family members or friends, you are not alone. Please see the Crisis Resource Information list.

Wishing everyone a fantastic school year!

Federally Subsidized Breakfast and Lunch Program

An application for a free or reduced school meal program is viewable on our website.  Families meeting the income guidelines for this program are encouraged to return a completed application as soon as possible to ensure the delivery of services to your child. Families completing applications may expect applications to be processed within one week from the time of submission. Students will be responsible for their own meals during the processing period. If your child was receiving federally subsidized meals in June 2020, your child will continue to receive those meals through October 26, 2020. You must reapply by October 26th to potentially receive free/reduced-priced meals after that date.

For additional information and/or assistance completing this application please call 732-842-8000, press 1 then 250, for assistance in Spanish please dial 732-842-8000, press 1 then 437.  The high school office is open every day from 7:30 am-2:30 pm throughout the month of August. After September 3rd, the high school offices are open until 3:00 pm.

    Student ID Cards

All students must have and carry their student ID. This card displays an individual barcode number for each student, allowing students to use the card as a source of identification and as a means to borrow reference materials from the Media Center. In addition, the card serves as a personal debit card in the school cafeteria, eliminating the need for a student to carry cash to school. Please stress to your child the importance of keeping this card in a safe and secure place on their person at all times. There is a fee for card replacement. Parents can add money online to your child’s lunch card through My School Bucks, it’s easy and convenient and may be accessed through our website www.rbrhs.org. Freshmen and transfer students are issued a photo ID card free of charge during the first week of school.

Military Recruiters - Federal Legislation Requirements/Exemptions

The law requires that districts receiving Federal funds must, upon request, provide military and college/university recruiters access to the names, addresses, and telephone listings of high school students. Parents and students who wish to receive information from the military and/or colleges/universities, do not have to sign or return this form. If this form is not completed and returned, the district will provide the military and colleges/ universities, upon request, with the student’s name, address and telephone number. Forms are available in the Guidance office and on the school website.

    Student Handbook

All students will be presented with an overview of the student handbook and school policies by our Dean of Students during the first week of school. Our digital handbook will be posted on our website.  Please take the time to review the policies outlined in the handbook with your child.  You and your child(ren) will need to sign an acknowledgement form via Genesis Parent and Student Portal stating that you have reviewed the school policies outlined in the handbook.  We are asking that all parents and students sign off on the handbook by Monday, September 21, 2020.

    Student Attendance and Absences

Parents and students are reminded that attendance will be taken in all blocks.  Parents are also reminded to always (1) contact the Attendance Office at 732-842-8000, press 1 then 270 on the first day of an absence, as well as (2) submit a note for their absence upon the return stating the reason. Parents can also email the attendance officer the reasons for absences.  Parent notes for illnesses less than 3 days must state the “nature of illness” (symptoms).  Illnesses lasting more than 3 days require a doctor’s note.  Absences for Court, Motor Vehicle and College visit appointments require documentation only from those offices.  Students who do not attend virtual classes or are late risk losing course credits.

    Students Excused Early for Appointments

Parents are reminded that if their child is being picked up early from school, the student must submit a note in writing before 7:30 am. from the parent stating the time of pick up, and the student must pick up an “Excused Early” pass from the Attendance Office to leave class at the specified pickup time and report back to the Attendance Office for the parent to sign them out.  Students may be signed out ONLY by a parent or guardian listed on either the note given or on the Emergency Contact list.  Under no circumstances may an 18-year old student sign out another sibling student.
